One of the making processes which I have employed in order to create lightweight yet incredibly durable costumes, masks, and props, is
fibreglass. Although this is a material often associated with manufacturing or pure functionality, the transulance of the resin in combination
with the fibrous quality of the glass fibre has a natural appearance when illuminated making it a lightweight, attractive, and durable
In conjunction with this is a diverse range of finishes available to colour and diffuse this translucent quality in infinitely many ways,
and experimentation with incorporating other materials is only limited by your imagination.
The process I have developed creating masks, costumes, props, and sets allows me to work sculpturally in clay or other suitable materials to create an original form or figure. This is then cast in order to create a single or short run of pieces in fibreglass. The natural translucence of fibreglass can be incorporated into these theatrical creations in order to amplify their performance impact, or for stand alone lighting solutions for the home.
